Once again a
dazzling journey for the eyes! Mark your calendar
because you won’t want to miss the Miniature Art
Society of Florida exhibit at the Leepa-Rattner
Museum of Art, Tarpon Springs, Florida, from January
17 through February 7th, 2010. There you will be
treated to a spectacular display of miniatures – not
only paintings but scrimshaw, fired porcelain, and
sculpture – including works
created by some of the world’s finest miniature
artists. With few exceptions, all of the art is for
sale.
Approximately 850 works of
art will be shown, from 221 artists, in addition to
the society’s permanent collection of more than 100
miniatures. The artwork is well lighted and
magnifying glasses are available for the complete
enjoyment of the small treasures. Most of the
artists create under magnification, using a variety
of mediums and methods and the tiniest of brushes
for paintings. Entries from 33 states and 11
countries provide a wonderful diversity of subjectmatter and framing techniques. Of the
approximate 1000 works of art submitted for entry in
the show, a jury ofaward-winning
miniaturists has carefully selected only the very
finest for display.
The Pasco Arts
Council's Museum will be open Saturday 9am to 1pm,
featuring work by local artists and craftspeople.
The Arts Center features outstanding
Gallery exhibitions of local and nationally renown
artists, a full schedule of year-round arts classes
and a a cooperative shop of original artworks. The
Center offers adult and children's classes,
workshops, lecture series and a summer camp art
program for children.

In 1961, a prominent citizen of
San Antonio, Florida, offered a variety of old farm
equipment to the Pasco County Fair Association. The
Association accepted 37 vehicles and tools of
yesteryear. This gift provided the incentive for
forming the Pioneer Florida Museum Association with
87 Charter Members. The main Museum is housed in a
50' by 100' steel building, which features a wide
rustic front porch, an addition of a medical room.
Also on the grounds stands the restored
Overstreet House,
a one-room school house from Lacoochee,
a church from Enterprise, the Trilby depot, and
a
train engine. Moving and restoration was
completely paid for by private contributors. The 16
beautiful wooded acres were a gift from a Museum
Association Charter Member. The Association has
established a Museum that recalls the basic, simple
values of our forebears, asserts the dignity of
labor, and emphasizes the value of craftsmanship.

Guy David" will kick off this arts filled weekend on
Friday evening in west Pasco County with a free
concert!

National Public Radio and CBS’ Late Show with David
Letterman, Guy Davis is a musician, composer, actor,
director, writer and consummate performer. He’s got
some Blind Willie McTell and some Fats Waller, some
Buddy Guy and some Taj Mahal. He’s got some Zora
Neale Hurston and some Garrison Keillor. But most
importantly, Guy Davis is a bluesman. The blues
permeate every corner of Davis’ creativity. Throughout his career he has
dedicated himself to reviving the traditions of
acoustic blues and bringing them to as many ears as
possible through the material of the great blues
masters, African American stories, and his own
original songs, stories and performance pieces.
