The members of the Fine Arts of the Suncoast want to thank all of you for applying for our first “Arts for Kids” Grants. Each year, the organization presents the Suncoast Arts Fest in January to raise funds for arts education in our community. In the past, these funds have been used in a variety of ways. However, last year, a survey of the arts teachers in Pasco was done and the overwhelming majority of the arts teachers suggested that the funds would be best used to provide grants directly to the classroom art teachers. This is the first round of grants to be awarded. All the grant applications we received were worthy of an award. A total of about $5000 was available so not all the grants could be funded and the awards committee had a very difficult time choosing the following 11 award grants. The following applications were selected for funding:
|Classroom Supplies||Crews Lake Middle||$475|
|Intro to Digital Design||Centennial Middle||$480|
|Adaptive Tools (one grant)||Connerton Elementary||$500|
|Kids with Cameras||Gulf High School||$500|
|Electronic Music Apps||Land O’Lakes High School||$500|
|Art Appreciation & History||Land O’Lakes High School||$500|
|Clay Sculptures||Odessa Elementary||$500|
|Fusing and Reusing||Ridgewood High School||$500|
|Adobe Photoshop Class||River Ridge High School||$218|
|Environmental Wall Mosaic||Woodland Elementary||$500|
|Plein Air Painting Workshop||Zephyrhills High School||$500|
The 2009 SAF funds were being used to promote elementary art where there have been cuts due to lack of funding in Pasco County.
The 2008 SAF raised funds that were used to send fifty 11th – 12th graders to the Ringling College of Art and Design for “Portfolio Day”, where 53 national arts colleges review works of aspiring art students in a variety of creative fields.
The 2007 show raised enough funds for five “Art to Go” teaching trunks full of visual and perforing arts resources. These trunks can be used by all Pasco county schools and trunk themes are:
In 2005, fine artist Christopher Still along with our organization made a presentation of ten of his murals depicting Florida history. These framed prints along with interactive audio CD’s and teacher lessons were placed in a “traveling tub” that can be used by all Pasco County Schools both public and private, K-12. The original murals currently hang in the House of Representatives located in Tallahassee, Florida. Pasco County school board members, art teachers, students and the public were invited to Longleaf Elementary School for this presentation.
The 11th annual Suncoast Arts Fest 2016 will be held January 16 and 17, 2016 in the centrally located, quaint “small town” environment of The Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
This is an upscale venue just off of I-75 in the northern part of the Tampa Bay area. A winding, cobblestone main street edged with trees provides the perfect venue for art lovers to browse through tents filled with fine art and select their purchases.
In 2016, a record crowd of over 100,000 people patronized The Shops at Wiregrass during the weekend of the Suncoast Arts Fest.
All proceeds from the Suncoast Arts Fest benefit “Arts for Education”. Grants funded through our parent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Fine Arts of the Suncoast, Inc., go to supplement arts education programs in area public, private and charter schools in Pasco County.
Over the past decade, the Suncoast Arts Fest has fulfilled more than 85 mini-grants to teachers to impact the education of more than 15,000 students. In 2014 alone, the awarded grants assisted 24 schools in the Pasco County school district.
